Wednesday, 5-20-2015 (Happy Video)

Hello everybody! Here we are in our very last class of the semester. It has been a great pleasure to work with you this semester! It is wonderful to see how quickly you have picked up new English skills and new computer skills. And it has been great to see your generosity in helping other students. I look forward to seeing you in other classes in the future.

Well, for our last day I think we should end with something fun. Here's a fun song with lyrics right on the video. It's called "Happy."

Can you find all of the lyrics on a webpage? Usually, you can do this by using Google to search for the title of the song plus the word "lyrics". So, in this case, try searching for "happy lyrics". Warning: lyrics websites often have a lot of advertisements that pop up, so be ready to click close those. When you find the lyrics, you might want to copy them and put them into a Microsoft Word document.

Tuesday, 5-19-2015 (Proverbs)

Good evening! Tomorrow is our last day, but there is still time for a little more learning!

You can do whatever you want, but here is a suggestion. It proverb is a saying that contains some kind of advice. Read these proverbs from England and the US:

1. Blood is thicker than water.
2. A bird in the hand is worth two in the bush.
3. Don't bite off more than you can chew.
4. Don't burn your bridges.
5. Every cloud has a silver lining.

Do you have an idea of what each proverb means? Ask one or two other students.

Also, you might want to make a document with translations of the proverbs.

1. Open a Microsoft Word document and create a table with one row and two columns.
2. Paste the proverbs into the column on the left.
3. Use Google translate to get a translation of the proverbs.
4. Copy the translation and paste it into the column on the right in your Word document.

You might also want to choose your favorite proverb and put it in big letters in a word document. Make it look nice with a beautiful font and colors. Maybe you could find a picture to illustrate the proverb as well.Here is a list of more Proverbs:

A final question:

Good evening students! Today you might want to continue with

Below are the lyrics with some missing words. As usual, I suggest you copy these lyrics and paste them into a Microsoft Word document. Then use "Tile Windows Vertically" to put the video and your Word document side-by-side. Then listen carefully and fill in the blanks.

When you finish, you might want to add a picture. Remember how we used "screen clipping"in PowerPoint? You can use that in Word as well. Search Google images or Flickr for "the carpenters"or  "Karen Carpenter."
